Sharon Clackum

Prior to working with Visante and establishing her own firm, Dr. Clackum was Director of Utilization Management at PharMerica in Louisville, Kentucky. In this position she was responsible for developing, implementing, and maintaining utilization services for pharmacies and clients around the country. This included coordinating clinical activities with other consultant pharmacists as well as with various regional pharmacies, while maintaining compliance with each state’s laws. Her team initiated process review and business development in contract pricing audits, gross margin analysis, and per diem contract appraisal. She was the compiler and editor of PharMerica’s Formulary and Nursing Drug Handbook, their Clinical Assessment Pharmacist (CAP) Training Manual, their Nursing Facility Policy & Procedure Manual, and their Prospective Payment System (PPS) Training Manual.

At Pharmacy Corporation of America (PCA), Sharon was a consultant pharmacist to nursing homes and also provided in-service education for professional staff and was a liaison between the facility and other PCA departments. She was part of their National Education Team responsible for reviewing, coordinating, and presenting educational materials and programs to PCA staff and their clients. She created manuals for their drug-nutrient interactions computer program, the Special Focus Drug Care Plan, Falls Assessment program, Osteoporosis screening, Sedative-Hypnotic Drug Use Evaluation, and the Georgia policy and procedure manual for nursing facilities.

Sharon was also a Consultant Pharmacist with Insta-Care Pharmacy Services and served as the southeastern region trainer for consultant and staff pharmacists, nurses, and ancillary personnel. As Regional Managed Care Liaison, she was involved in the evaluation, development, and implementing of therapeutic drug studies.

Throughout her career, Sharon has desired to give back through professional and community service. She is currently on the American Society of Consulting Pharmacists (ASCP) Board of Directors and is president of the Mercer University Alumni Board of Directors. She is adjunct professor at Mercer University and has also served as a pharmacy preceptor for Mercer University, the University of Georgia, and the University of South Carolina. She is a Fellow of ASCP, and a member of the Georgia Pharmacy Association.

Sharon Clackum earned a BS in Pharmacy and Doctor of Pharmacy from the College of Pharmacy & Health Sciences at Mercer University, Atlanta, GA. She is licensed to practice pharmacy in Georgia and Alabama and she resides in Cumming, GA.
