In addition to his work with Visante, Mike is Ambulatory Pharmacy Service Director for the University of Utah Hospitals and Clinics (UHC) in Salt Lake City. His responsibilities include oversight for 12 retail pharmacies and ambulatory pharmacy support services for thrombosis, cardiology, neurology, infectious disease, hepatitis C, cystic fibrosis, and transplant specialty clinics. He also oversees inpatient and outpatient pharmacy services for the university’s affiliated Orthopaedic Hospital and the Moran Eye Specialty Center.

Mike is credited with development of the university’s pharmacy benefits program and is in charge of PBM contracting and management for their various health plans. He also developed a full hospital discharge and education program utilizing outpatient pharmacists.

Along with Visante consultant Kristin Fox-Smith, he developed one of the first specialty pharmacy programs for Medicare Part B and other payers covering transplant patients.

Through his leadership, University of Utah Hospitals and Clinics is now building one of the largest Medication Therapy Management networks of pharmacists in Utah utilizing retail pharmacists as the primary pharmacy clinicians.

Previously, Mike was Associated Provider Services Director for Talbert Medical Management Corporation in charge of all pharmacy services. This medical group was a spinoff of the FHP Inc. staff model HMO for which he had been Pharmacy Director. In this role he was responsible for all pharmacy services in the FHP Hospital and clinics, as well as utilization management and data analysis, purchasing, and pharmacy network contracting and development. He was also responsible for Quality Assurance and NCQA reporting and planning.

Mike is active with the national and local chapters of the Academy of Managed Care Pharmacy. He is also active with the Utah Society of Health Systems Pharmacists. As an adjunct faculty member of the University of Utah, he serves as a preceptor for fourth year pharmacy students and PGY1 and PGY2 pharmacy residents. He is also on the Safety Net Hospital 340B Coalition and the Pharmaceutical Care Management College of Pharmacy Coalition and active with numerous committees at UHC.

Michael Kelly received an MBA from the University of Phoenix and a Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy from the University of Utah, both in Salt Lake City. He is a resident of Sandy, Utah.
