John’s consulting work also extends to many non-health related organizations. This work has focused on influencing skills, customer loyalty, and sales improvement. Examples of these companies are: Apple, Newell-Rubbermaid, Marriott, Consolidated Edison, Morgan Stanley, Goldman Sachs, State Farm, Union Pacific, LG, Kraft, IBM, BP, Shell, AGIP, AT&T, Home Depot, Texas Instruments, UPS, FedEx-Kinkos, EDS, McCarthy, Zachry, Continental Airlines, American Airlines, 3M, Novell, Frito-Lay, Dell, Prudential, and Samsung.

In the government arena, John has worked with the White House (Executive Office of the President) designing and implementing a major customer service initiative as well as with numerous Federal, State, and local government units throughout the United States. He has also been engaged by more than 300 public agencies and private organizations in consulting, training, and speaking roles.

In academia, John teaches graduate and undergraduate courses on topics such as Interpersonal Communication, Organizational Behavior, Advocacy and Persuasion. He also instructs programs on advocacy (influencing skills), customer loyalty, selling skills, and communication for the University of Texas’ Executive Education and Executive MBA programs of the McCombs School of Business.

Over the course of his career, he has won every major teaching award at UT. He has published more than one hundred scholarly articles, and completed six academic books. He served as President of the National Communication Association, President of the Council of Communication Societies, and was on the Board of Directors of the International Communication Association and the International Customer Service Association. He is a Fellow of the International Communication Association. His work has been cited in any number of popular outlets including the Wall Street Journal, The Washington Post, and The New York Times.

John Daly received a BA with honors from the University of Maryland, MA from West Virginia University, and a PhD from Purdue University. He resides in Austin, Texas.
